Product Description Have you ever wanted to point out the Orion Nebula, or trace the outline of the Sagittarius "Teapot" for a friend or family member? You point your finger, but that just doesn't cut it. "Where? You mean the third star up from that middle pine tree over there?"The SkyLine Deluxe Green Laser Pointer is perfect for stargazers. It emits a thin but distinct green laser beam that appears to stretch all the way to the stars! Skyline's green beam (< 5mW) just keeps going and going, seemingly to infinity. It works in light-polluted or moonlit skies! It?s great for pointing out stars, planets, and more for others to see. The SkyLine uses electronic feedback regulation to ensure ultra-stable beam intensity compared to other green lasers on the market, even in cold temperatures. The aluminum body is 6" long and features a pocket clip.

| Customer Reviews: Answering Some of the Criticisms May 18, 2010 R. Kirkham (Rushville, Illinois USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is an excellent product. I once led seminars with a strong flashlight. The green laser pointed is wonderful. I can't praise it highly enough.
There are, however, a few things customers should know about green laser pointers (GLP) in general. I'll try to answer a few of these here.
Criticism #1: It isn't powerful enough. This pointer is the most powerful allowed by law. Some countries allow stronger pointers, but the United States does not. This GLP is strong enough to do what it was designed to do.
Criticism #2: It works well for the first couple of minutes, and then dims. GLPs were not designed to be left on like flashlights. Their circuits are different. They are designed to point to a target then be turned off until you point to the next target. If you leave it on for more than a few minutes at a time, it dims. If you leave it off for a few minutes, it will come back on at full brightness again.
Criticism #3: It drains batteries. GLPs do a number on battery life, especially in cold weather. Orion's GLP is designed to correct the situation. This makes it more versatile than many, cheaper pointers. Some astronomers keep a hand warmer in their pocket during the coldest of the winter months to keep the batteries warm. This extends their life. Other astronomers purchase quality, rechargable batteries. This seems to fix the problem.
Criticism #4: It is fragile. The GLP is a precision instrument, not a flashlight, or $2 toy laser pointer. It comes with a foam lined, metal case. It should be treated as if it were made of crystal. Actually that's not far from the truth.
NOTE: The criticisms I just mentioned do not apply to the Orion Skyline Deluxe GLP, they apply to ALL GLPs. Orion's is one of the better ones out there. You need to decide if you want such a specialized tool before you order. I am so glad I finally broke down and purchased one. It was one of my better astronomy purchases.
SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW!!!!! I have recently been comparing the Orion green laser pointer to some of the cheaper green laser pointers out there. Some of them are VERY cheap. The Orion model is slightly more rugged (but not much). If you purchase the type that uses two AAA batteries (rather than watch batteries)the cheaper pointers are just as bright as the expensive Orion model. The cheaper pointers do not fit the Orion mounting bracket (though I think there could be a way to make it work). The more expensive pointer has circuitry that allows it to be used in colder weather. I have found some cheaper pointers for only a fraction of the cost. Verdict, if you are going to use the pointer on your scope and during the winter, you may want the better quality, Orion pointer. If you are only going to use the pointer on summer evenings to point out constellations, you may want to purchase the more expensive pointer.
Great reliable pointer July 8, 2010 J. Hubbard (Springfield, OR) I've had mine for about 5 years. I bought it at the 2004 Oregon Star Party. It's very bright and puts a solid green line up into the sky for pointing out stars and objects of interest. Indoors most people are used to seeing the dimmer red pointers, this one stands out. The green dot is very prominent.
Couple of thoughts. Kids will want to play with it. You have to say no, it's extremely bright and can cause eye damage if they point it at someone. When the weather is very cold (approaching freezing) the pointer will be slower to turn on and come up to full brightness. Eventually it won't turn on until warmed (at least mine is that way). I keep it in an inside jacket pocket when not in use so it hasn't been an issue since I realized what was happening (I thought the batteries were low).
I've never seen a cheap 5mw green laser so I don't know how they compare. This has a sturdy metal case so I'm not concerned about it breaking easily. I'm happy with the purchase although it's not cheap.
Excellet product! August 13, 2009 C. Graveley (D.R) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
It is an excelent laser pointer, you can see the light far away from where you are. I am very happy with my purchase.
Bright but short-lived. February 18, 2008 Caduceus (Minnesota, USA) 12 out of 15 found this review helpful
This is a great laser pointer for as long as it lasts, which is about five minutes in below zero weather. I thought Orion products were better than that.
